I want to write a poem
I want to write a poem
But more than that
I want my poem to mean something
I want my poem to resonate
Deep in the drumming of your heartbeat
And when you look in the mirror
I want my words to reflect back at you
My words
As powerful as a river
As rich as silken honey
I want to write a poem
That pushes itself to my very core
Not my heart
That's just a muscle
But my center
Where love, hate, and everything I feel
Is safely hidden away
From peering eyes
cruel laughs
And bad reviews of an amateur poet
I want you to know
I write this for you
For me
And for anyone
in desperate need of a good poem
