I'm From...
I'm from cinereous city lights,
the buzz of an old TV,
Mr. Rogers singing on the screen.
I'm from creaking cherry wood,
the floors that sing at Christmas.
I'm from falling stars,
they make the best wishes come true.
Like storybooks, I’m from tree swings
and homemade dessert.
I'm from cold Boston football games
from the Pats vs. the Jets.
I'm from rainy days and board games,
Sunday morning cartoons and cheerios.
I'm from the tap tap tap of dance shoes,
a dream that has not gone away.
I'm from Harry Potter games at recess,
my mom at church in her red dress.
I'm from donuts in the morning,
the woods whistling outside my grandmother’s house.
I'm from long school days,
and dancing after eighth hour when thunderstorms roll through.
I’m from Asics and Nike,
Canon and Nikon.
I will be from dull Missouri grass,
living in the future, not worried about the past.
