The Killing of the Master
I sing tunes same as the birds
My heart pounding in my chest, faster and faster
It stopped, the second I heard those words,
“I've killed the Master”.
“Sister, dear, you’re only five.”
Master was the terrible man keeping us here
She said, “I know, and he’s no longer alive.”
Was this true? Do I have nothing left to fear?
The bruises and scars he’s left on me,
They are unforgivable
Someone will finally get to see
For the moment, I felt the world was mystical.
My facial expression went from wretched to blissful
My sister still contained the innocent look in her eyes as I asked, “How?”
“I stabbed him in his back,” she said, “it was quite laughable.”
I just looked at her. All our problems were gone now.
Just then a bang came from the inside
Master came crawling helplessly out the door, half dead on the porch
Had sister lied?
In an instant, I thought of gasoline and a lighter. The Master was scorched
He withered away to nothing
Should I feel terrible for my deeds?
My sister thought of it as quite funny
His passing it what we all need.
