Guarding the Flag
Why do I always have to guard the flag?
It may be the task most suited to me,
For I am the best at protecting it,
But maybe I want to try to capture the other team’s.
Because all I do is dream,
About being the one to steal it,
About achieving success
Like a hero
What if I could be the one,
Always being chased,
But never caught,
Because I know I can do it;
I know I can learn
But then I recollect the pretext for standing here
Because here, I’m okay
And so are all the others
Because I don’t want to be the failure,
I don’t want the be the one
Hopeless, pathetic, and sad,
Stuck in jail,
Never even bailed out.
When I could’ve been happy,
Just protecting the pennant
