Rainbows In The Night
It was midnight on a warm summer evening,
The breezes in the air provided balance to the heat,
The moon shined like a massive rhinestone glued to the darkness,
I took a relaxing drive to the harbor,
Boarded on to a small, beautiful boat,
And there I began my journey,
Becoming mesmerized by the city skyline,
I cruised on the east river,
And gazed upon the buildings,
The light bulbs of the skyscrapers were like Christmas lights,
Blinking on and off as I rode by,
The reflection of the city on the east river was like an abstract painting,
But instead,
The reflections were real,
During the night it was an iridescent rainbow
But during the day, it was a polluted filthy river.
It’s as if we’ve been living in two separate worlds,
With beauty turned inside out.
