Chairlift
He opened up the ponderosa backpack
And I held his dark gloves with the rubbery tips
As he dug oranges and green apples out
Peeling them with the silver blade of his hunting knife
That was the first time we all rode a chairlift together
And when the cables began to shiver
Nate pulled the safety bar down
While I squirted Ethan with my orange
That was a sun in the winter sky
Flakes came down
Clinging to our eyelashes
Blake was smiling at me
Tiny prints in his cheeks
As Jake slid the white clumps from his goggles
