I could've
I asked my friend if regrets die
And he said they leave you and you barely notice
He said one day, you’ll wake up and you’ll realize
There isn’t a monkey on your back anymore
There isn’t a 3 pound I-accidentally-
Cheated-on-my-3rd-grade-spelling-test kind of weight
He said it’s like forgetting
A really good kind of forgetting
But I haven’t forgotten
And that weight hasn’t slid off my shoulders
Why?
Why because even when I dream
There’s still a hint of that
Because while other people
Regret the things they did
I regret the things I didn’t do
I didn’t say hi to him or her or them
I didn’t even say how I thought
This is stupid or how this is fun
I didn’t say how I think
That life is really beautiful
Or how I don’t think its fair
To call someone that
I didn’t say that I was angry
Or why I was sad
Or how he makes me happy
With just his face
I didn’t say that I loved
That book
And I didn’t share
My life philosophy
I didn’t tell that story
About that funny/sad/stupid
thing that happened to me
And I didn’t say why I disagreed
I didn’t give her a compliment
I didn’t comfort him
I didn’t say this
I didn’t say that
I didn't even try to argue back
Why?
I could've
I could've
He said regrets die
But what if you're reminded every day?
Every day.
