My Drained Bathtub
Waiting is like sitting in the bathtub
because there’s no towel
and watching the steam roll off the mirror in flat waves,
losing the plug to the drain where the water
crawls away from me to enter the pipes
Even after 35 minutes waiting is still like wrapping my arms around my knees because
The air hurts my skin
as my toes lose the wrinkles like backwards aging
and ask me
why I’ve done nothing but waste time for 50 minutes
in a waterless bathtub
