Warmth

Sometimes when your heart droops heavy in your hands,
When you throat grows tight with chains,
When you eyes blur with kaleidoscopic tears,
When one silently slides down your cheek,
When you feel utterly alone,
The world leaps to your rescue.

Look outside. The sun envelopes you in a glimmering hug, warm and bright.
The wind reaches out to stroke your hair, brushing it past.
The plants sway towards you, sharing your sorrow.
The birds sing you a sweet lullaby.

The grass tickles your toes, coaxing a smile.
The silent cacophony relaxes your heart.
And when your eyes drift towards the sky,
That soft expansive blanket,
That vast, blue ocean of stories,
You feel that irrevocable connection to the thousands of other eyes,
That once searched the same sky for answers.
To the millions that search them now.

And you are no longer alone, enveloped in a blanket of warmth.

The author's comments:
This piece is one that emerged from pure emotion. I was having a tough day and was a little confused about the world. But while I sat outside to take a breath of fresh air, I was utterly inspired by the outside. It was stunningly beautiful, and it made my think: what could I possibly be upset about living in this world? It sounds awfully cliche, but imagine the thousands of other things that run through a young teenage girl's mind! Looking at the blue sky made me realize this is the same sky that has existed for thousands of years, and this is the same sky that has endured the hardships of war, love, and whatever else exists beneath it. It is the same sky that many have lived through hardships beneath, and many have rejoiced beneath. This notion captured me, and I decided that I had to write about it.
