Masks
Success in society is like a brick wall
You climb and you climb, but you just start to fall
In a world filled with judgment and hate
Some have it all while some never ate
Selfish and cruel is how we can be
While those who are kind get lost in the sea
The sea of life, of people and places
The gentle are scared of unfamiliar faces
It makes no sense how the rich don’t share
With those who have nothing who do nothing but care
And when you have everything and some have nothing
Doesn’t it make sense to share at least something?
But sharing seems like the worst you can do
When the worst you can do is love nothing but you
And some love everyone and everything grand
But their wrists are slashed by the blade in their hand
And sometimes people are the cause of those slashes
The fire in their words turns the innocent to ashes
We abuse each other and we don’t even know
That the people we hurt abuse themselves, but don’t show
Violence is peace for those who are suffering
But we never stop to think, “Who’s caused them their suffering?”
Pain can be eased by kindness and caring
So what kind of mask must you be wearing?
To cause pain is to wear a mask
From fist, to words, to knife, to flask
The mask hides reason, so we must show
Why we do the things we do, forgive and let go
Take off your mask; let your feelings be free
Everyone wears a mask, even you even me
Together we can break the string of crime
And together we may be just fine
