The Bird Cage
As I sit down for breakfast,
my eyes wander to the cage sitting across the room
wherein sits a bird on a swinging throne.
It is just an ordinary bird, with a yellow head
that compliments its green body
I begin to wonder what it does all day
its entire world enclosed in a cage.
If it wants to leave it cannot;
for it is trapped, confined, ensnared
It solely moves for food and drink;
and when I cast the tarp over the cage,
only then, will it sleep.
It appears the cage has become part of the bird,
and the bird, so it seems, has accepted it.
