Conformity
We hide behind demented lies,
We fake our smiles and suppress our cries,
We destroy our minds behind mundane tasks,
We defile our beauties with the use of a mask.
A mask of dull conversation and blissful ignorance,
A mask of societies' ideas of beauty-- a mask of self-loathing!
A mask of destructive obsession of conformity,
A mask to bind us all in unity.
We claim we want to be different,
Yet each and everyday we follow in our leaders' footsteps,
We like to believe that we are free,
But conformity has its snare around us, making it impossible to breathe.
Impossible to breathe in ideas or thoughts,
Impossible to see through societies' hazy lies,
Impossible to break free from its tightening grasp,
Impossible to breathe,
Impossible to live,
Impossible to be free.
Some say being a sheep isn't all that bad,
They say it's easier when we don't have to think,
Thinking leads to questions
And questions lead to answers
And as we all know, answers lead to chaos.
The sheep blindly follow their leaders,
Never questioning, always looking down,
They never think, they never breathe,
They simply wallow in their ignorances' bliss.
Those who remember what it means to be free
They begin to question the need for unity,
They learn to think and form ideas,
They remember how to breathe.
Those that breathe are madmen, tainted vessels,
Society does not want madmen to breathe,
It wants everyone to believe in a foolish dream,
The madmen are waking the sheep from their dreams.
As much as we try, not all the sheep wake
They do not want to face the reality of life,
With that, conformity maintains it's precious hold
Of turning people into molds.
