The World's Reason
People believe that
Everything happens for a reason.
People have faith that there is a
Distinct plan, made just for them.
This is the way the world works,
This is the way things are,
This is the way everything will end,
Because,
Everything happens for a reason.
She lost her job because
She wasn’t meant to have it.
They got divorced because
They weren’t meant to be together.
He died because
His time was up.
These things all happened because
Everything happens for a reason.
But what if I don’t want to
Follow the world’s arrangement for me?
How much does the world
Actually know anyway?
Maybe I don’t want to be
Like the people on the island who were Lost,
And maybe I don’t want to be
Like a hero in a dystopian novel.
Maybe I’m not as conveniently
Fooled as they were
By the world’s plan
Allegedly made just for me.
Maybe it’s good that people believe
In the world’s plan for themselves.
Maybe this is the way the world works,
And maybe everything does happen for a reason.
But maybe,
Those reasons are the
Choices that we make
For ourselves.
