Ode to a Redhead
You are wilder than the ocean
Defying the roaring waves
Your auburn hair tossed back in fiery riplets, by the salty wind.
You are wilder than the wind, and you toss my heart harder than the ocean ever could
My passion for you burns brighter than the fiery stars blazing throughout your white hot skin
But I’m trying to let go
And so I’m spending my Saturdays sitting alone with my notebook
Writing sad sappy love poetry under my grandma’s silver birch tree.
But you still insist on being wild.
And I have to pretend every time I look into your eyes
I have to pretend that I can’t see the silvery ocean foam reflected back a me when I look into your eyes.
I don’t think of how your laugh is like the sound of the sea, or how your hair is like a warm sleepy sunset.
I am planted beneath this silver tree, admiring the silver leaves.
I have to pretend that I've forgotten how to swim, because I’m drowning.
I’m forgetting the ocean.
