21 & 16
So daddy, you met mommy when you were 21
She was just 16
You were the bad boy
The older, cooler, dude
The bad boy who was in a boy band, dude
You smoked pot, luckily mom never got into that stuff
A few years passed you were 24
She was just 19
You guys moved into a house not far from your parents place
Mommy hated your mom, my granny
I can see why now, haven't seen her in a year
Gigi is gone now, your dad
I hope you two are having fun up there
Hoping and wishing and watching and waiting
So then your sons were born
"I just want a little girl, my little princess."
So then you got obsessed.
Hoping and wishing and watching and waiting.
You got your little girl! Congratulations!
So then you got a job up in Quebec.
4 week there 2 weeks back
"I miss him so much", Mommy would say
I want my daddy came to my mouth so many times
You used to sing Somewhere Over The Rainbow every day
We would lay down in the back yard and pick out stars
You taught me how to cook, wrestle, ride a bike, and bristle belly
Standing on a chair
At age 4 making an egg because I got bored
You told me I should to be a tough girl
Brave girl
People like strange girls
Funny girls
But be a smart girl
You put me into soccer, and soft ball
"My little girl will never be a dancer"
Hoping and wishing and watching and waiting
Well you came to my first dance recital the last time you came back
I can't kick a soccer ball for my life
But I can still hit a base ball, daddy
Mommy got a call from a man saying
"I'm sorry but Andy has passed away"
You were 41. She was just 36.
She told me last
She didn’t wanna put that pain on your little princess
Hoping and wishing and watching and waiting
2 weeks off of school because once again
I want my daddy
Why did it have to be fathers day when you died?
I made gifts for you
Hiding them in my closet
Then make you go around the house finding them
But no, I got cut short. We all did.
I gave those gifts to mommy
She doesn’t say how much she misses you anymore
Hoping and wishing and watching and waiting
When I was 9
Mom was just 39
We moved
We found a new life
We put our past behind and created something better
You made me a tough girl
Brave girl
And yea its really true people do like strange girls
Especially funny girls
And I'm a good apple because I'm a smart girl too
Hoping and wishing and watching and waiting
I'm also a weak girl
Weak because I wreak of sadness to a keen eye
I'm a scared girl
Scared because I know that I am no ones little princess anymore
Don’t worry about the strange girl
That came on its own
I'm also an ignorant one
Ignorant because I don’t know what it's like to hear my fathers voice say
"I love you" anymore
Because all that’s running through my mind is
I want my daddy
But don’t worry in a year I will be 16
Hoping and wishing and watching and waiting
