Two-Sided
You will only see one side of me.
You will only see my emerald side, my green side.
I am carefree, warm, gentle, and loving.
When life goes awry, I will laugh and dance my fears away
for who cares about what happens in this world?
I do not stand out, for I prefer the back row where my face is hidden,
but my voice will be heard among the thousands.
You will see me, but I will not stand out.
You will only see one side – my green side.
But there is another side.
A dark blue, like the swelling clouds before a storm –
a side a few will ever see.
All thoughts and all feelings are lashed out
like lightning streaked across the sky,
dazzling and dangerous and daunting.
Yet none will see this side of me, the darker me.
No one will see the side with tears, with heartache, with guilt,
with regret, with anger.
It is locked away with ink and paper –
a perfect prison with no possible escape.
There are two sides of me,
just as there are two sides to every person.
But you will only see my emerald side.
