you were not;

suppose to notice when i
leaned in a little too close
to doodle on your paper

you did not notice when i
leaned in a little too close
to catch a whiff of your shampoo

you do not notice when i
stare at your brow
looking for wadded and discarded paper
carefully smoothed out again
never same

you do not notice i
you are engrossed in your own cracks


we are both in love with scars;
