My mom says
I used to listen well.
That was before I listened to things,
I didn't want to hear.
My mom says
I used to not be defensive about everything.
That was before I learned anything,
could be used against you.
My mom says
I used to be the perfect little girl,
That was before I learned I had to grow,
To survive.
My mom says
I used to be shy
That was before I was left alone,
Unheard, unseen, unnoticed.
My mom says
I used to not be so distracted,
that was before I had so many things,
That required my attention.
