Little Brother
Little Brother is lazy
Little Brother is messy
Little Brother is loud
Little Brother is needy
Little Brother is absolutely, positively, unbelievably aggravating in every possible way, and he makes Big Sister want to wail and break a window
“Oh, but Big Sister, Little Brother is perfect,” says Mother
Little Brother is blameless
Little Brother is faultless
Little Brother is the best
Little Brother does no chores
Little Brother sleeps till noon
Little Brother hasn’t a care in the world
Big Sister does her chores
Big Sister gets straight A’s
Big Sister eats her vegetables
But Little Brother is better than Big Sister because he is Little Brother
Why??
Why?
Why do I clench my jaw when he walks in the room?
Why do I yell at him to get his act together?
Why does it break my heart to watch him waste his life?
Because my little brother is just like little me.
Big Sister was lazy
Big Sister was messy
Big Sister was loud
Big Sister was needy
Big Sister was absolutely, positively, unbelievably aggravating in every possible way.
Big Sister was once Only Child
Big Sister now has to share
It was hard for Big Sister when her life changed forever.
But Big Sister would never want to be Only Child again because Little Brother, although lazy and messy and loud and needy, makes her laugh
Little Brother is there for her
Little Brother is her friend
I didn’t pick my little brother
But I’m sure glad I have him
He is my enemy
He is my cohort
He is my neighbor
He is my mirror
Love you, Bud.
