Moments
Why can’t I stay?
The sun not leave the day?
Hot water pouring down
endlessly on me,
the sweetness of a peach,
the soft breeze tickling
my toes,
a warm embrace,
a bright orange sunset
dimming to darkness.
It’s over.
One bullet to the heart,
a knife, a wound,
a broken promise,
one choice and
it’s gone.
The girl into the sunset
and you wish
years later
to go back.
Taste the meat,
an old spring in your set,
go up to her
and say,
“I’m sorry.”
