My Present That Christmas
I wrote Santa a letter to
Bring home my dad
Because he’s off in Iraq
And it’s making mommy sad
As soon as the arm on
The clock struck midnight
I could see Santa’s sleigh,
Though barely in sight
I quickly but quietly
Scurried out of bed
As he came down the chimney
Dressed in all red
His white hair covered
Most of his face and chin
But not enough to
Hide his saintly grin
He slowly walked and
Sat on the couch
And began to eat
The cookies I had laid out
He ate with such happiness
And such glee
He almost forgot to leave
The presents under the tree
As he was about to
Take his leave
He said “your real present is
Too big for the tree”
He climbed up the chimney leaving
Nothing but a few crumbs on the floor
Then suddenly came a
Soft knock on the door
I opened it slowly and
To my surprise
It was my daddy
With watery eyes
I hugged him and kissed
Him with sheer delight
For Santa had given me the
Most wonderful gift tonight
