Bittersweet
Rain drops dance
as a flushed pink lily
peeks through the faded gray
horizon.
Why must sadness be
so painfully beautiful?
A teardrop down
a soft cheekbone,
a breaking heart,
the flowers on
a wooden casket.
Yet people are so afraid
to look beneath
the surface of
the yellow sun.
See the burning desire,
the sadness welling up
inside.
Afraid to cry out,
close the door
and say goodbye.
But the sky knows
to dance
to dance till
light seeps through
the gray.
