black mask
I cover my face with a black mask
My true face
I never show
Most everyone who knows me
Sees the happy devoted to life
Mask
But under the mask
I am sad and angry
Barely clinging to life
My walls are so high
That very few
Every see the mask
Come down
Only four
Have seen the mask
Disappear
I wish
With all my heart
That my mask….
My barrier
I could remove
It wouldn’t be hard
To slide it down my face
The black mask
Protects me
But I so dearly wish
That someone
Anyone….
Everyone….
Would see behind
The black mask
To the REAL me
My black mask
Protects me
From everything
At least
It shows
The protected side
Of me
And not
The shattered me
