Too Late

I ran down the halls,
I streaked through the path,
Down doors and stalls and even a water fountain or two.
I jumped over students tying their shoes,
Sidestepped teachers sipping coffee,
And even dived past a kid carrying a project that I had nearly ruined.
My sneakers were on fire,
My backpack felt like lead,
But I had made it,
Made it too late,
I was tardy,
And now I regret using the snooze alarm.
