just like before
Her old smile was back,
made of this morning’s suicides.
She held their blackened
wings in her
palms like worry rocks,
only wishing that
she too could fly away.
The blankets of chilled sadness
wrapped around
her bare shoulders
heavy and helpless.
Those old memories swarmed
through her brain,
circling throughout the
deepest pits of fear.
Now she waits
only to find her legs
sinking into quicksand.
Choked by depressions gritty claws.
Her old smile was back,
Fake just like before.
