Chem, F Block
Chemistry class is way more interesting
When we conduct labs. Look at the zinc
wrapped up in the cold pristine copper,
See how it begins to glow and shine above
The flame. Look, it's oozing, plummeting
Towards the heart of the bunsen burner.
There it goes! A shimmering melted mass
contained by the metal pipe bubbles, content
Until the fire flickers and goes out,
Smothered. Quicker than a blink, the zinc welds
To the burner, refusing to lift away as the metal
Grows chilly. After class our teacher must
Get rid of it so that the burner will work.
He'll use a chisel to pry the hardened mass
Away from its unwilling, crippled host.
Every shard breaks into a million fragments
As he chips away, piece by painful piece.
