One Thousand Shining Lights
They are the only ones that dazzle me. I am the only one who admires them. One thousand shining lights that glow and light up the night. One thousand amongst millions in my neighborhood. One thousand shimmering lights here to astonish me. From the upstairs window, I can gaze upon them, but I’m the only one who notices.
Their beauty is overlooked. They remind us that it is Christmas. They glare up and they beam down and illuminate the snow-covered ground and challenge the stars in the sky with a twinkling gleam and never give up their fight.
Let one forget his reason for being, they’d all flicker like street lights, each striving to be the center of attention. Shine, shine, shine they say when I look. They glisten.
When I am too stressed and too overwhelmed to get things done, when I am lost in a state of confusion. When it seems there’s little hope, one thousand lights are still shining. One thousand who never lose their luster. One thousand whose only reason is to amaze me.
