My Heart
My heart is a flower
ever growing ever dying
new buds replacing the lost.
In times of drought
the plant withers
but returns even more beautiful
when the rains come.
My heart is a wooden post fence
strung in between with barbed wire
wide enough to climb through.
It is a closed door
but an open window.
My heart is the runaway ball
that if you run fast enough you can catch.
My heart is the girl
with muddy feet
dancing in the rain.
It is the squirrel
that cannot decide whether it wants
to cross the road or not.
My heart is the narrow mountain path
leading up and up.
It is the little chickadee
just above your reach
harmonizing with the wind.
My heart is the countdown
for when they come home.
It is the child watching
at the window.
