Thoughts All Blue
These tears a’ wellin’ in my eyes
As I search the honkytonks and dives
Searchin’ for the key, the switch
That thing that’s gonna make me rich
The high school dropout sees his share
Of things that others aren’t aware
Humanity in all its forms
While other boys hide in dorms
I’ll take that long hard road, down Sunset
If ya promise I’ll reach the beach
And not die in some lonesome alley
A mile and a half down the street
Great writers are revered forever
Immortals amongst mortal men
Filled to the brim with themes and fervor
Is it worth a life of sin?
‘Cause if it’s not, I need to know
So that I can avoid that long hard road
And save myself from all the pain
Keep from fallin’ down insane
Instead I’ll search the brothels, chapels
Keep my hopes and dreams all subtle
Accrue some wisdom and ideals
Across the grease laden roadside meals
And if I see that I might succeed
I’ll take that long hard road indeed
But until I see and get that clue
I’ll just keep writing down these thoughts all blue...
