Where I'm From
I’m from my mother’s love,
dad’s strength,
And my brother’s courage.
I am from arguing with my sister about spending time together.
Verbally, not physically.
Not able to sleep.
knowing we would make-up.
I’m from wondering where my brother is
as I look at his letters.
Waiting for a phone call,
knowing he would come home nine months later.
I am from Dad’s chicken wrapped in bacon
with cream of mushroom soup.
And Mom’s homemade pizza burgers.
I’m from watching the Packers’ on the weekends
with my brother and father,
While shopping with my mother on weekdays.
I am from secrets we share.
boys, friends, and inside jokes.
Meghan and me.
confidential.
I’m from a young, innocent child
growing to be mature and now guilty…
Remembering that once again,
I am still from my mother’s love,
My father’s strength,
and my brother’s courage.
