Where I'm From
I am from Peterbilt dump trucks, Barbie picnics, and Silverado Power
Wheels.
I am from the white farm house across from the lake.
I am from the burrs in my blonde hair, the dirt in Jake’s mouth, and the mud
on my dad’s work boots.
I am from kickball and baseball in the field, and lake parties at Uncle Don’s.
I am from roller- skating, the ones you keep your shoes on when wearing
them, on the gravel driveway.
From watching Monsters Inc. and Iron Giant on VHS.
I am from church on Sunday, and Piggly Wiggly after for hot ham.
From Sussex, the family whose dirtbikes, fourwheelers and trucks were
constantly complained about.
I am from Menomonee Park, where my mom always made us do family
pictures, dragging on and on for hours.
I am from the family whose dog runs away every other day, and gets hit by
passing cars, and chases the neighbor lady’s cats up the
tree.
From the Radio Flyer being pulled from behind the Silverado Power Wheels,
driving off to have a Barbie themed picnic, with my brother
chasing after-- wanting to come with.
