forbidden fruit
There's something absolutely thrilling
about chasing the worst possible
thing to want.
He is the boy your mother warned
you about and every logical
space in your brain echoes with
warning screams but your fingertips
tingle with every touch and you
become addicted to inhaling his presence;
smoky sweet cedar and sharp cologne
that can be described as nothing
other than pure gold.
You are both marathoners going in two
different directions but
somehow you took a dark turn
onto his road and the straight and narrow
seems to get broader and broader
with every sprint towards the finish line.
The path is tumultuous and terrible
and your heavy heart knows that
you will never be his one and only but
the lightning in your veins
had hijacked your heart and convinced
you otherwise.
