We Grass
When I look at society
I see a field of grass
We’re mostly water
we need sunlight
a place to live
we grow in large clumps
we see only
the ground
the sky
and the other blades of grass
right next to us.
Never the whole meadow.
We strive to be the same:
“If so many blades are that way,
it must be the way to be.”
Try to become
the tallest
the strongest
the greenest.
Most times
the ground is dry
dusty
Most blades of grass
are bent
hunched over
looking down
at a little flat glowing thing
or just at the ground.
Uninteractive.
But sometimes
the water flows in the soil,
everyone stands up straight
proud to be who they are
focused purely
on the joy of being
Alive.
