I Am from a Moving Van
I am from a moving van,
from Coca-cola and Lucky Charms.
I am from the concrete jungles that surrounded me, avoiding me from looking at the horizon, from the small garden that my dog alone took up, from my comfy, blue bed on top of nightmares.
I am from the pine trees that created a relaxing shade and breeze,
the sunflowers that my sister adores,
I am from a Christmas dinner in pajamas and joy,
from Maru’s smile, as bright as a star, María’s optimism, as cheerful as a dog, and Enrique’s hard work, making him as exhausted as a sloth walking a mile.
I am from the Sunday dinners at no certain restaurants, from getting lost in the middle of the city, from the sweaty Sundays after playing soccer.
From “Ya vete a dormir” and “Hazme caso”.
I am from God, from Jesus, from the Holy Spirit.
I'm from no place, but at the same time, I’m from everywhere. I’m from Torreón, Tampico, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Culiacán
From the endless school hallways, filled with kids like in Disneyland.
From the time we moved, together as a family,
the stories we told on the way there,
and the unity between us.
I am from the dark hallway, filled with pictures, in a small spot, somewhere in the universe.
I am from a moving van.
