Hunger Games
An ode to the contestants,
(although they were forced to be attendants).
Twenty-four young warriors pit against one another,
much to the horror of their fathers and mothers.
In the arena lies a mountain of treasure,
full of tools and baubles who’s worth we cannot measure.
One step towards the horizon line,
might bring a horde of animals who wish to dine.
Into the forest a couple of days,
a fireball might fill your gaze.
When night falls creatures roam around,
the dark hiding horrifying monstrosities.
Tread carefully without a sound,
for any noise could wake an atrocity.
The death of daughters and sons considered a necessity,
their stories erased and untold.
Tributes fight with considerable ferocity,
threat of death can make people bold.
In the end only one can survive,
but we think, why must they fight?
Before the savior can arrive,
the powerful ones keep freedom out of sight.
This is the hunger games,
Compared to war, is quite tame,
yet in both, no one leaves the same.
