Shadows

I saw a shadow
touch another shadow.
Was it a vow of love?
A sweet whisper?
Were their hearts aflame
as they drowned
in each other's gazes?
Only a shadow can feel
a shadow's touch.
And I would, if only I could,
shed my mortal substance
to be with my love,
and forever hold her hand,
our souls imprinted by love's light.
