The Riptide Effect
I’ve always known grief to be a funny thing
That it comes in waves but was never constant
But until now I had never felt the riptide effect
The current that pulls you away form the shore of hope
And the pain that holds you under threatens to ruin you
Your lungs burn and muscles ach as you try to save yourself
When you finally break free
The shore isn’t too far off
And you almost make it
Until a wave crashes over you and the riptide catches its prey once more
This is what grief does to you
And no longer will you see the shore
