Strawberry Skin
You were the ever so sweet metallic taste on my lips
Where the blood ran free with regret.
A steady drip to my blood stream seemed like a lifeline;
It was a drug I never meant to take.
Sweaty hands that grasp while we run:
Run, run like we did through the lights, through the colors.
Running to darkness and a million stars.
Running to connecting doors and spilled cups of tea.
Your memories are stains of light
Where your words splattered across
Walls that now read “Not here.”
Not here.
Not anywhere that I am still haunted
By the scent of strawberry skin.
