Where I Come From
I come from Ken and Diann, Carol and Harold, Diane and Frank
Who put so much joy and laughter into my life
From a sassy yet intelligent mother, a bright and bold father
I am from Italian, German, Irish, and even Hungarian ancestors
Where I have learned to cook, bake, and be my best self
I am from doctors and businessmen
People who put me first and love me no matter what
I come from women of integrity, faith, and tradition
Where a red “Rose” is where I come from
I come from the spring, with new beginnings, new life, and new hope for my future
I come from the rays of a sunset, rooted deep within the earth
A sunset shining so beautiful yet so bright
I come from a family so funny, courageous, but most of all loving
A family who has taught me everything I know to this day
I come from a school who showed me how to be a woman, a real woman
How to stand up for what I most value
A place that has taught me to be myself, be open, to accept others
I come from arms wide open and hearts so full
I come from friends that make me laugh until I cry
People I can call my brothers and sisters
I come from a world that is full of violence and peace, hate and love
I am from a place called Louisville, KY
That I have been grateful to call my home for the past seventeen years
I come from a place that has built me
