My Wooden Love
It’s just wood.
Just like a pencil
Just like a tree
Just like a table
So plain, so ordinary
But that’s just at first sight.
It holds so much inside.
So much potential and beauty
It sits there waiting to be played.
Waiting for its melodies to be released
Once someone moves the bow across it, bam!
Notes and rhythms come bursting out.
The stunning sound bathes the entire room.
There is no sudden stop or hesitation in the music.
The wooden structure just keeps pouring out glamorous sounds.
Just like a waltz.
Graceful, alluring, winsome.
Just like a waterfall.
The music keeps pouring out.
Nothing is stopping it.
Until it hits the end of the waterfall
The sudden crash of the water
Replaced with the sudden applause of the people.
They hold their breath,
In shock, in awe.
For this eloquent sound coming from the wood
is something unheard of,
Something that is not comparable to anything.
To think it’s just wood
What a mistake!
The detail in its structure
Each curve in the wood
Each carving
The intricate shape
The type of wood
The hair on the bow
The way it touches the strings on the wood
The way those help the wood create a striking sound.
This wooden figure is a cello.
Pride is carried with that name.
For a cello is something magical.
Something that has a special place in my heart.
Something that I consider mine forever.

I am a cello player, and I was inspired to write this piece when I recieved a handmade crafted cello from Bulgaria on my birthday.
