I Wish You Had Stuck With The Flu MAG
residue of sweat clinging from every branch of
your aching body
chills that remind you of walking barefoot on a
february night
a runny red nose that feels like missing a train that comes every two hours
a belched cough contrasting your hourly smoker’s bark
sneezes brought to you as gifts from hell
ears clogged by the fear of your time being wasted
symptoms lasting days that feel like millenniums
you avoided this from the simple piercing of a needle
and instead you got a symptom-free
silent killer

This poem is about my father who obtained Hepatitis C after receiving a flu shot in Russia in his adolescent years. Unfortunately, back then they reused their needles hence the deterioration of his liver. Enjoy
