Living in Linen
Although my body maintains its shape…
the inside is forever changed.
My body washed by the Nile, wine, and spices…
the cleansing of life.
My liver, lungs, stomach, intestines extracted…
a portal to the inner workings,
the ultimate preservation.
Imsety, Hapy, Duamutef, Qebehsenuef…
Gods worshipped in life on Earth,
watch over my body and soul as I crossover,
and protect my organs in the afterlife.
Only my heart remains in my body…
Now wrapped in hundreds of yards of linen strips,
keeping a pure soul intact.
If my body and heart permit…
my soul will live forever.
Although my body maintains its shape…
the inside is forever changed.
Bandaged but immortal.
