Devoted – Builders of the Pyramids
I lay staring into the black sky.
Sand forms to my boney frame–
laying next to my father
we anticipating tomorrow's venture.
We are the builders of the Great Pyramid.
Restless, we stargaze.
Years pass.
I built muscles.
Calluses, bruises, and cuts formed on my hands and feet.
We are the builders of the Great Pyramid.
I lead my son outside–stars consume his thoughts, calming his mind.
Will he follow my father and me?
Devoted to each piece of limestone heaved across the never ending land,
our love for the pharaoh impels us.
We are the builders of the Great Pyramid.
My father was buried at night so he could see the stars again.
The pyramid neighbors completion.
I push myself to work like my father–
to uphold his legacy of greatness.
We are the builders of the Great Pyramid.
I lay, staring into the black sky.
Sand forms to my strong, tired body.
Laying next to my son,
tears filled one eye while joy filled the other knowing the journey ends tomorrow.
We were the builders of the Great Pyramid.
