Prayers Fill the Sea
We kiss our wives and children goodbye.
As sailors, we persevere,
navigating the sea.
We pray to him for a safe voyage.
Our ship sways.
The waves build under us,
hearts speed.
We pray to him for a safe voyage.
The sky darkens.
The waves tower over the ship,
deluging.
We pray to him for a safe voyage.
Our skin covers in coral,
our lungs full with water.
Our bodies wrap in seaweed.
...Silence...
His body, full of fury,
Thrusts his trident into the sea,
ignoring our prayers.
For he is Poseidon, God of the sea.
