I Remember
I remember hopping through hot white sand
on a bright summer day
on a crowded Floridian beach
I was 9 and the world seemed so open
I could look across the horizon
and see the gulls flying out of view
Oh how I wished to fly
to soar to new and foreign places
to feel the distance between me and the ground
growing ever further
Recently I've found myself
lying on my bed late at night
in the darkness
thinking about that me
the little boy wanting so desperately to reach out
Wanting so desperately to touch that horizon
to soar far beyond its seemingly endless border
I am and always will be that kid alone among a crowd
and forever happy being that way
For that boy never really left
he grew and he changed
yes
but he is still here
I am still here
and that horizon is still calling
