The Bubble Problem

What are these fragile spheres
floating just inches from my furry face?
They tease my tongue relentlessly--
disappearing when finally I catch them--
inexplicable, like a magician’s rabbit in a hat.
Fascinating and free...
but what is that lingering taste?
Bitter...clinging ceaselessly
to my dripping coral tongue,
stripping away my enjoyment.
Their creator pulls out a wand
and blows a new set towards me.
I should look away, run away.
But alas, here I am yet again,
chasing bubbles in the backyard.
