Both Sides of the Wall: A Cacophonous Cradle-Song
rock-a-bye mommy
W | rock-a-bye baby
on the cell phone
A | on the hard bed
when the sun breaks*
L | when the calm peaks
the boyfriends shall call
L | the lovers shall brawl
and out will come insults, teardrops and bawls
S | and down will go eyelids, spirits, and palls

First of all, thank you so much for reading this poem! :)
WHY I wrote this: My room and my mother's room are adjoining, so the nightly feuds that transpire in her room serve as cacophonous cradle-songs.
HOW to read this: (1) Ignore the letters of the word WALL while reading–they are present solely for the purpose of representing the barrier that exists between my mom's reality and my reality during my mom's midnight meltdowns. (2) Read all of the unitalicized words before reading the italicized words in order to establish a parallel between these simultaneously-occurring narratives OR read alternately the unitalicized words and the italicized words in order to experience an echoing effect.
NOTE: The unitalicized words represent my mom's thoughts, actions, and experiences whereas the italicized words represent my thoughts, actions, and experiences.
