Wide-Eyed
My eyes were stinging
With a burning, endless pain.
Tears welled up one by one
And fell from the unblinking lids,
But still I didn’t close my eyes
To stop the dry, racking sobs.
I was afraid that if I blinked,
Everyone would disappear
And I’d be alone again.
