Autumn Ways
Apple Cider humidifies the air
Sweet, pungent waves of cinnamon
Overripe apples
Dangling upon the naked branch
As leaves spiral
Slowly to the ground
Harsh winds take them far away.
Beside the porch
Forgotten pumpkins gradually rotting out
The musty smell of hay bales
Left out in the rain
Tickles my nose.
A small fire burns
Oaky smells escape
The murky fireplace doors
A flickering glow illuminates the room.
Wisps of grey smoke
Spin out of the chimney
and dance in the crisp evening air.
