Deer Opener
Opening Day
Nervous about my first day out
I climb into my stand
All I can do is sit and call
I do not trophy hunt
I hunt for meat
All of a sudden, a deer walks out
My finger on the cold steel trigger
As I grip the stock
I line up my sights
My breathing gets lighter and softer
My finger starts to softly pull the trigger back
I feel the recoil shoves me back
The smell of smoke sneaking into my nostrils
The valley grows dead silent
I feel bad about taking a life
But it puts food on the table
And teaches me to survive on my own
